Another great Wedding Ceremony Reading

Excerpt from the Goodridge v The Massachusetts Department of Public Health ruling (written by Judge Margaret Marshall) that first legalized gay marriage in Massachusetts:

Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. For those who choose to marry, and for their children, marriage provides an abundance of legal, financial, and social benefits. In return it imposes weighty legal, financial, and social obligations....Without question, civil marriage enhances the "welfare of the community." It is a "social institution of the highest importance." ...

Marriage also bestows enormous private and social advantages on those who choose to marry. Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family.... Because it fulfils yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life's momentous acts of self-definition.

Decatur House - Tented Wedding Reception

As promised, I am back with more photos from Laurie Bracewell. Here is the wonderful wedding reception in the tent of the Decatur House in Washington DC. We were able to pull off this room flip with ease because the client used some pipe & drape to section off a part of the tent during the ceremony, so that the tables could be fully set before the ceremony even began.

Decatur House: Tented Wedding Ceremony

Big thanks to Laurie Bracewell for sharing these great photos of Lisa and Bernards's September 2011 wedding. Their ceremony was in the tent, the cocktail reception was in the Carriage House while the tent was flipped, the dinner was back in the tent, and then dancing was back in the Carriage House. Here are the ceremony photos. Check back tomorrow for reception photos!

An Asymmetrical Bridal Bouquet

I simply adore this color-blocked and asymmetrical bridal bouquet. This was used in a photo shoot but I would love to see it in a wedding. Created by Greenworks.
