Obsessed: Hush Puppies

And while you are enjoying a Cherry Lime Ricky at Clare and Don's Beach Shack, I highly recommend you get an order (not a side order, a full order) of the hush puppies. Fried cornbread? Yes please! I like to think of them as savory donut holes. They are so delicious. I could eat them as my whole meal. Today.

Obsessed: Cherry Lime Ricky

There is a cute beach shack style restaurant that I drive by every day on the way to work called Clare and Don's. They have great ambiance, great food, and great drinks. My favorite drink there is the Cherry Lime Ricky. It's kind of like a Sonic Cherry Limeade but with alcohol. The traditional recipe calls for gin, fresh cherries, sugar and lime. I'm pretty sure the one I drink at Clare and Don's has vodka, grenadine and a slice of lime. And it is so good. I recommend you swing by there when you are in Falls Church City and have one.

Obsessed: Glee

Something else cheesy that I am completely obsessed with is the TV show Glee. This should not be surprising to anyone who knows me well. I love TV shows about high school (Save by the Bell anyone? Dawson's Creek? The OC?), and I love cheesy music. Glee is the perfect mix of the two for me. The 80s music, the one liners, the teenage angst - it's like The Breakfast Club, where the jocks and princesses become friends with the freaks and geeks, but with singing and better dancing. And nothing lifts my spirits faster than listening to the Glee music - of course I have all of the songs they've put on iTunes :)

Obsessed: Harry Potter

I'll admit it. I'm a nearly-30-year-old woman completely obsessed with Harry Potter. "Fan girl" might be an apt description. Not the character, himself, but the books. I have all the books, all the movies and I also have the books on my iPod. I'm not ashamed. And I am getting really excited for the next movie, due out in November. In preparation for the final two movies (Book 7 is being split into two movies), I'm re-listening to all of the books. I'm not ashamed. I think they are brilliant works of fiction (I don't view them as fantasy - I know, I am kidding myself). I don't begrudge you if you don't have any interest in the books. But if you do, we have a lot to talk about :)

Obsessed: Punchline

Punchline is my favorite band. I discovered them through The Berlin Project while I was at the University of Pittsburgh. So I've been following them since about 1999. I am happy to call them friends at this point, and I am lucky enough to see them a few times a year. They come to Baltimore regularly, and to Virginia occasionally, and I will go up to Pittsburgh to see them too. In my own wedding I walked down the aisle to their instrumental song Yearlong Winter. They are playing at my milestone birthday party later this year. Punchline is on the Modern Short Stories label. Check them out. I hope you like them.

Obsessed: Oh Happy Day blog

I am obsessed with the Oh Happy Day blog. I don't even have words to describe to you what it is, except to say that is a awesome collection of pretty things for happy days. And pretty things that will make your day happy. Check it out. I especially like that her son lives in a closet, the Father's Day gift idea, and the birthday gift of 112 cards, to name a few.

Obsessed: Style

Todd Avery Lenahan, whose handout at his sessions at Engage! 10, The Caymans, called “Style Defined”, laid out seven keys :
  1. Style is an admirable point of view
  2. Style is a re-assuring confidence
  3. Style is a compelling voice
  4. Style is consistency
  5. Style is authenticity
  6. Style is a sense of accomplishment
  7. Style is effortlessness

Tuesday Shoesday: Froggie Keds

I used to have these Eleanor Grosch for Keds shoes. I wore them all the way to retirement in the trash can. I wish I could find another pair. People loved noticing that the green spots were really frogs and lily pads. I am all about colorful and fun flats.

Obsessed: Characters on USA

I love the original series on USA.

In Plain Sight: US Marshals in charge of folks in witness protection in Albuquerque. (Bonus: Mary is bad ass and Marshall is cute and hilarious) Burn Notice: spies doing spy stuff in Miami. (Bonus: Michael Weston is HAWT) Royal Pains: a concierge doctor in the Hamptons. (Bonus: Hank is adorable) White Collar: a professional thief released from jail and working with the FBI. (Bonus: Neal is HAWT) Psych: a pair of private detectives using fake esp to solve cases before the local police do. (Bonus: Shawn is adorable and funny, as is Gus, who is also a West Wing alum)

If you aren't watching at least one of these shows, we probably can't be friends. Just kidding. Sort of. Here is the best (worst?) part. These are not 22 episode seasons. They only require a few months dedication. And many of them are summer shows so they won't interfere with your basic cable prime time favorites that run from the fall through the spring.
